“Coding is today’s language of creativity. All our children deserve a chance to become creators instead consumers of computer science.” Maria Klawe

The Computing and Computer Science curriculum is designed to form thoughtful, creative, and morally responsible learners who are prepared to flourish in a digital world. Rooted in Gospel values such as wisdom, integrity, stewardship, and justice, our curriculum empowers pupils to use technology not only as a tool for innovation, but also as a force for good in society.

From Key Stage 3 onwards, pupils are introduced to the core principles of computing and computer science. They develop an understanding of information and computation, learn how digital systems work, and apply this knowledge through programming and problem-solving. Computational thinking – breaking down problems logically and designing solutions, is at the heart of this journey, as pupils are challenged to think critically and creatively about what can be computed and how.

As they progress, pupils explore the component parts of computer systems, including software, hardware, and data communication. They also develop a range of technical skills, from coding and debugging to evaluating and refining digital solutions, building resilience, and confidence in their ability to innovate.  Alongside all of this, pupils learn to use information technology effectively to create content, design systems and communicate ideas. This fosters not only creativity and digital fluency but also the ability to collaborate, adapt, and contribute meaningfully to real-world contexts.

In line with our Catholic mission, we place a strong emphasis on digital literacy as a moral and social responsibility. Pupils are taught to use technology safely, ethically and respectfully, developing awareness of online safety, data privacy, misinformation, and the potential risks and rewards of emerging technologies. They are encouraged to reflect on the impact of technology on human dignity, community, and the environment.

Our aim is to form digitally literate, ethically aware and technically skilled young people who understand the power of computing to shape the world, and who are committed to using their gifts and knowledge to serve others, uphold justice, and help build a more compassionate and connected future.
