What we are is God’s gift to us. What we become is our gift to God.” Eleanor Powell

At St Patrick’s, our PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) and RSHE (Relationships, Sex and Health Education) curriculum is guided by the Gospel values and rooted in the dignity of the human person. It seeks to form pupils who are informed, confident, compassionate, and morally grounded, ready to make a positive contribution to their communities and the wider world.

Guided by the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, our curriculum provides pupils with the knowledge, skills, and ethical understanding they need to flourish as individuals and responsible citizens. It supports their spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development and actively promotes British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

Our curriculum is structured around three key strands:

  • Health and Wellbeing – developing resilience, emotional literacy, and the ability to make safe and informed choices.
  • Relationships – nurturing respect, empathy, forgiveness, and love in the light of Catholic teaching, with a focus on the dignity of family life and the sanctity of every person.
  • Living in the Wider World – fostering financial literacy, digital responsibility, active citizenship, an understanding of careers and work-related learning, and a commitment to stewardship of God’s creation.

Through these themes, pupils are equipped to navigate life’s challenges with integrity and responsibility. They are encouraged to recognise their gifts, value the uniqueness of others, and understand their responsibilities to themselves, to society, and to God.

From Year 7 to Year 11, PSHCE and RSHE are taught through form time, dedicated lessons, and cross-curricular links, including Citizenship and Careers Education. This integrated approach ensures that pupils receive a broad, balanced, and coherent experience that prepares them not only for academic success, but also for life beyond school.

The aim of our provision is to nurture well-rounded young people who are confident in their identity, rooted in faith, and equipped to lead healthy, purposeful lives in service to others and as stewards of the world.
