Year 8 Retreat to Castlerigg: Following the Wild Goose

Our Year 8 pupils enjoyed another memorable retreat to Castlerigg. Set against the beautiful landscape of the Lake District, the retreat gave students valuable time to step away from everyday school life and reflect on their faith and friendships.

The theme of the retreat was Wild Goose, a symbol of the Holy Spirit – an especially fitting focus during their Confirmation year. Through a variety of activities, pupils were encouraged to think about how the Holy Spirit guides, challenges and inspires us, often in unexpected ways.

During their time at Castlerigg, the group took part in games, a reflective walk around Keswick, Mass, Lectio Divina, and affirmation activities that helped them recognise the gifts in themselves and others. There was also plenty of laughter and friendly competition, particularly during games of snooker and foosball.

When asked about their favourite memories, pupils highlighted spending all their money at the tuck shop on sweets, enjoying time together outside of lessons, and the much-loved party night. This included karaoke, games, and concluded with a bedtime story read by our very own Mr Turner – an unforgettable end to a fun-filled evening.

The retreat was a valuable and enjoyable experience that allowed Year 8 to grow spiritually, socially and personally. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on faith, build community, and create lasting memories as they continue their journey towards Confirmation. We hope that the retreat is not only a memory but also fuels their next steps and involvement in the faith life of the school and parish.
