“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.” Marie Curie

Science is taught as a vital way to explore and appreciate the wonder of God’s creation. Rooted in Gospel values such as stewardship, truth, wisdom, and responsibility, our Science curriculum seeks to nurture awe, curiosity, and a deep respect for the natural world.

A high-quality science education provides the foundation for understanding the world through the disciplines of biology, chemistry, and physics. Through our carefully designed five-year spiralled curriculum, pupils progressively build essential knowledge and concepts, while developing a passion for discovery and a respect for evidence-based understanding. They are encouraged to see the power of rational explanation as a way of engaging truthfully with God’s world, aligning with the Gospel call to seek truth with integrity.

Pupils learn to ask meaningful questions, carry out scientific enquiries, and apply scientific methods to explain, predict, and analyse the phenomena around them. This empowers them to become critical thinkers and problem-solvers who recognise their ability, and responsibility to care for and positively shape God’s creation.

We aim to ensure that all pupils:

  • Develop a secure body of scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding across biology, chemistry, and physics, enabling them to make informed decisions and appreciate the complexity and beauty of the world.
  • Understand the nature, processes, and methods of scientific inquiry, learning to question, explore, and investigate with curiosity and purpose—reflecting the Gospel values of wisdom and truth.
  • Are equipped with the scientific knowledge necessary to understand the uses, implications, and ethical responsibilities of science in today’s world and for future generations, inspiring them to act justly and contribute meaningfully to the common good.

By engaging with Science through this moral and spiritual lens, our pupils grow not only in understanding but in compassion, purpose, and hope, empowered to use their knowledge to serve others and care for creation, just as Christ calls us to do.
