“People without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture are like a tree without roots.” Marcus Garvey

Our history curriculum is designed to ignite curiosity about the past and equip students with the knowledge and skills to understand the complex world around them, rooted in the Catholic mission to develop compassionate, thoughtful, and morally aware young people. Through the study of the past, we aim to help pupils understand not only the events that have shaped our world but also the human experience at the heart of history, marked by courage, injustice, resilience, and hope.

Over five years, students explore how people have moved, settled, governed, resisted, and changed the societies around them. They will examine how power and policy have led to conflict, how belief systems have shaped cultures, and how individuals and communities have worked for justice and peace. In doing so, pupils are encouraged to reflect on their own responsibilities as stewards of creation and members of a global community.

Our curriculum includes a rich variety of period, thematic, and in-depth studies that develop historical understanding and enable students to make meaningful links across time and place. From studying ancient civilisations to more recent struggles for civil rights, pupils are challenged to consider the moral and ethical dimensions of human actions.

Through critical engagement with sources, and diverse perspectives, pupils build key historical skills: evaluating evidence, forming balanced arguments, and questioning assumptions. We empower students to see history not simply as the story of the past, but as a guide to informed, compassionate living in the present and future. Through our subject we aim to form young people who are historically aware, socially responsible, and inspired by Catholic values to contribute positively to the world around them.
