“Geography is the subject which holds the key to our future.” Michael Palin
The geography curriculum at St Patrick’s nurtures a deep understanding and appreciation of God’s creation. Through a broad range of topics, we aim to help pupils understand the world around them and recognise their role as responsible global citizens, guided by the values of stewardship, justice, and compassion.
Pupils will explore both human and physical geography through topics such as rivers, natural hazards, climate change, population, and urbanisation. These studies are underpinned by Catholic social teaching, encouraging students to consider the impact of human actions on the environment and on the most vulnerable in society. We teach pupils that geography is not just about places, it is about people, their lives, and their interconnectedness in God’s world.
Our curriculum emphasises the importance of caring for our common home, as inspired by Laudato Si’, and encourages pupils to reflect on their responsibilities toward sustainable living, climate justice, and ethical resource use.
Geographical skills are developed through engaging classwork, map reading, data interpretation, and fieldwork, allowing pupils to actively investigate and understand real-world issues. This hands-on learning also fosters curiosity, independence, and critical thinking.
Our Geography curriculum seeks to form young people who are informed, reflective, and committed to making a positive difference -locally and globally – by living out their faith through action and a deeper understanding of the world.
