Question Time

On Thursday 3rd November young people from across Salford came together to participate in the first ever young person's Question Time event, which gave them the opportunity to voice their issues and concerns to a range of local councillors and decision-makers.  The event was a great success and there was some good lively debate!

Over 35 young people from all the different neighbourhoods of Salford attended, representing young people from their areas.  In addition to this there were young people from Next Steps (Leaving Care Service) and the LGBT Youth Group in attendance.

Questions ranged from "What is the council doing about housing for young people leaving care" to "How safe is our youth service" to "What are you doing to stop binge drinking on the streets of Salford".  All young people listened to the responses and on occasions challenged members of the panel on some of the things they were saying!

One of the key things that came out of the discussions was about trying to challenge the negative perceptions of young people and it was stated that a clear media strategy needed to be put in place in Salford to tackle this.

Overall the event was a great success and calls have already been made to make this an annual event which is brilliant news.  So…watch this space!
